I was reading May's Wired magazine (i love Wired) and they had an article on artist Neville Page. He designs monsters and aliens for movies ... or so Wired told me.

Here's why this is interesting:

I'm very surprised at myself for not doing an Idol post as yet. So here goes.

I really like this season, there have been better overall, but its been a while since we've had a clear winner so early on in the compettition (Kelly, Carrie).

Somewhere in between the crowded beds of Port of Spain General and the murders that litter every tabloid page, you’ll probably find the dying nationalist dreams of our independence era. I’m not sure of exactly when or exactly how it got there but I’m certain that it did. If the old folks are right, at some point in time in our histories we had dreams of nation building, cultural autonomy and all that good stuff, now we dream of metropolitan educations and metropolitan passports.

Not that I’m treading on anyone’s vision of success. Like most of my “peeps”, I also can’t imagine anything short of a scruffy/cultured/unstable off white boy and a seven figure salary that could make me want to spend to the rest of my life in Trinidad. But as I pack my suitcases for the long voyage to expatriate glory I can’t help but wonder how it all got like this. How a fiercely nationalist, 1960’s Trinidad grew to have the third highest rate of emigration per capita in the world.

I think part of it has to do with culture. There are a lot of kids out there who are simply bored out of their panties with most of Trinidad’s cultural/entertainment offerings. You’ll see us sleeping on the barstool of sky, against the plastic trees in zen or on top your unwashed (ex?)boyfriends saying that we’re tired/drunk/sorry but what we really mean is please give us something better to do. Not that stimulating alternatives are going to make people feel safer leaving their houses or create jobs for Yale graduates with their PhD.’s in 16th century East-Persian erotic poetry, that only god and some opportune kidney cancer (Manning joke!) can see to. But, I definitely think they’re a small start towards a Trinidad that heavy boozing artsy fags and Nabokov reading scholastic over achievers alike could feel more at home with.

It seem that we cannot escape the great Lady Gaga, and the unstoppable vortex of faggy mess that accompanies her everywhere she goes and clings to everything she touches. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but Trini bullamen can’t seem to get enough of her.

Maybe ‘cause she brought her career into the mainstream on the stage of Ms. Universe. Perhaps due to her overall drag-queen-ness (platinum-blonde wig and black bumblebee glasses, calls to mind a boy I know). Personally it’s because (on good days) she sings the songs my heart would write.

Our love for her seems to go beyond the rational. How else does one justify perpetuating a(several) facebook group(s) solely dedicated to an attempt at persuading her to visit our little Isle?

My moods are ephemeral and highly malleable, to which Melvin can attest.

I guess as a side-effect of bottling up and storing away all inconvenient emotions, I wear my fluctuating moods on my sleeve. Sleeves that I change every day (at least as many times as I bathe).

I can almost guarantee that my mood for any given day is determined, or at least directed by the last song I hear on the radio on my way to work that morning.

My boredom is omnipresent and opressive. But it gives me alot of time to read webcomics (as well as regular ones).

I'm a big fan of xkcd.com. They always make me think, and I like that. But I'm not a computer programmer, nor a physics major, so sometimes they go over my head

I've been folllowing this year's season of Surf Camp, religiously checking Youtube waiting for the new sessions. We've reached session 4 out of 5, but if you've not been following it, its still not too late to catch up. (link)

I was most distraught when my beau Ryan got voted off in session 3. He was soo cute, but a flaming queen. I'm not usually interested in the more feminine men, so he's definately the gayest man i've ever been attracted to.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Turn Into

After being threatened by police, eluding sobriety and watching my ex crush play with someone's dick, I think this carnival definitely qualified as eventful. Although it wasn't new, it wasn't intense or anything greater than all it had been before, I left d' mas this year feeling a little more content than I think ever have.

I'm not a fan of fags, soca and partying (of which there was much this carnival) but I am, however, a fan of the quiet and sometimes personal moments that come afterward and in between (of which there were enough).

I think alot of it had to do with this kid that was staying with me: the aforementioned ex crush. I used to think of him as a sort of insensitive whore, not really the kind numb with resentment but rather the kind that simply doh cater. I wasn't entirely wrong but I wasn’t entirely right. He was pretty similar to me in a lot of little ways that I guess only someone overly self conscious about being "different" would notice, reminding me a lil bit of myself when I was 15. He was still verily a tusty mess much like I was, much like I guess most of us were.

What made every thing special was that he got my whole rant about not simply reacting to the environment. That it’s not necessary to be a cunt to people simply because they are cunts to you, not simply as a matter of altruism but one of self interest as well (because seriously, who likes cunts). Cunty behaviour only begets more cunty behaviour. Crazy buller behaviour only begets more crazy buller behaviour. The cycle sort of continues ad nauseam. And, at some point you begin to want to get out. I did and I felt like at some point he would too.

On the maxi ride home he pointed out a hawk (or something so) hovering over the ocean.
